June Maintenance Checklist – Things to Do Around the House This Month!

Blog David Gordon October 4, 2023

With summer just around the corner and the heat starting to crank up, it’s time to give your home some much-needed TLC. Whether you’re chilling indoors or enjoying the sunshine outside, we’ve got you covered with our June maintenance checklist.

Get ready to spruce up your place and create a cozy, welcoming atmosphere for you and your loved ones. Let’s jump right in and tackle those essential tasks to keep your home in tip-top shape all summer long!

Update your furniture

Take a good look at each piece and give them a thorough cleaning. Dust those nooks and crannies, vacuum any upholstery, and wipe down all surfaces. While you’re at it, inspect each item for any loose screws or wobbly legs. Don’t underestimate the power of a screwdriver and some elbow grease!

If you have any worn-out or tired-looking pieces, consider giving them a fresh new look. Refinishing or repainting furniture can breathe new life into them. Sand down the surfaces, apply a fresh coat of paint or varnish. Embrace your creative side and find innovative ways to repurpose or upcycle items if you’re feeling crafty.

Take stock of any extra furniture that you no longer need or use. Consider donating, or if you have the time, hosting a yard sale to rehome your old pieces and reclaim space for your home.

Improve your home security

Take the opportunity to update your home security. Inspect locks, deadbolts, and door frames for any compromised or damaged components. Repair or replace them to ensure your home remains secure. Consider enhancing your home security system by installing smart home security devices such as smart locks, security cameras, or a video doorbell.

Service your HVAC system

As the summer heat intensifies, it’s crucial to prioritize the maintenance of your air conditioning (AC) system to ensure a cool and comfortable home environment. Scheduling professional AC maintenance is a proactive step towards keeping your system in optimal working condition. A qualified technician will perform a comprehensive inspection, thoroughly clean the various components, and identify any potential issues that might impact performance.

During the maintenance visit, the technician will clean the condenser coils, fan blades, and other key parts of the AC unit. This cleaning process helps remove dirt, debris, and dust buildup, which can obstruct airflow and hinder the system’s efficiency. By keeping these components clean, your AC can function more effectively, providing better cooling performance while consuming less energy.

Clean your windows

When it comes to window maintenance, it’s important to ensure clean and functional windows in your home. Start by tackling both the interior and exterior surfaces of your windows. Grab a quality window cleaner or create your own solution by mixing vinegar and water. Apply the cleaner to the glass and use a microfiber cloth or a squeegee to wipe away the dirt and grime. This will leave your windows sparkling clean and enhance the natural light that enters your space.

Don’t forget about those window screens. These handy mesh barriers not only keep pesky bugs at bay but also allow fresh air to circulate. Take a closer look at your window screens and inspect them for any tears, holes, or signs of wear and tear.

Get some exterior maintenance done

To maintain your exterior spaces during the summer, it’s important to follow a few key tips. Start by cleaning and decluttering the space, removing debris, and keeping the floor surface tidy. Check for any necessary repairs, such as loose boards or cracked tiles, to ensure safety and structural integrity. Maintain plants and greenery by providing proper care, including watering, pruning, and adding colorful flowers. Protect the area from excessive sun exposure by installing shades, umbrellas, or canopies.

Regularly clean patio furniture, cushions, and accessories to keep them looking fresh. Take measures for pest control to keep the outdoor space free from insects or rodents. Finally, personalize the area with comfortable seating, decorative accents, and ambient lighting to create a welcoming atmosphere.

Remember to prioritize safety during your home maintenance tasks. Use appropriate tools and equipment, and if you’re unsure about any particular task, consult with professionals or experts for guidance.
